Neelofer Vahora recieves $1000 scholarship!

2009 Civic Scholar Contest
Congratulations to our 2009 Civic Scholar Neelofer Vahora!

Neelofer is a junior at Evergreen High School (HS3) and a Running Start student at South Seattle Community College. She represented the unincorporated neighborhoods of Boulevard Park and White Center on the Mayor’s Youth Council where she has coordinated youth community meetings on gang violence in the South End. Neelofer is also a founding member of the Make the Dash Count Foundation’s Seattle Youth Board. Make the Dash Count works to inspire youth in our communities to become the next generation of philanthropic leaders. There she researches grants for local nonprofits that help youth reach their full potential. She has given over 400 hours of service to these and many other nonprofit and community groups.
Way to go Neelofer! :)

Timeline for Seniors!

May/June

  • Verify that your final transcripts have been mailed
  • Notify other colleges of your decision not to attend
  • Continue to search for scholarships
  • Look for a summer job and save money for school
  • Evaluate student loan lenders

June/July/August/Sept

  • Save some graduation money for school
  • Respond to requests from the will be attending. Keep copies of everything you send!
  • Read and be familiar with your college catalog and semester class schedule
  • Talk with friends who are home from college for the summer
  • Make travel arrangements if neccesary
  • Register and attend college orientation session
  • Confirm housing arrangements and meal plans
  • Consider a student loan to cover financial need
  • Finalize your college budget
  • Notify the financial aid office of scholarships and loans you will recieve
  • Contact your roommate and coordinate what to pack
  • Consider taking out renters insurance
  • Return borrowed items, such as library books, rental videos and things borrwed from friends
  • Make a note of tracking numbers of boxes you are shipping to school.
  • Open a baking account near school
  • Review your cell phone plan to limit roaming charges
  • Send thank you notes or postcards to those who helped you get into College
