UW ~ Tacoma in the House:)

Be a person people like to be around!

Getting along is a job skill. In fact, it could be the most important one! How can you be sure people will want to work with you? Check off each item you’re sure is true about yourself. And, if you’re not sure a statement is true, what should you do differently?

____1. I do my part and more. I always finish my part on time because I don’t want to be seen as someone who dumps last-minute details on others.

____2. I never complain about people without telling them first what’s bothering me. I don’t like when someone complains to others about something I did without telling me, and I’m not going to be guilty of doing the same thing.

____3. I have enough to do taking care of myself, so I don’t point out flaws of other people. When asked, I give advice, but that’s different.

____4. My personal problems stay at home or in my head. I don’t want to make people uncomfortable by sharing too much or grumbling about a personal problem.

____5. I try not to let other people know when I feel defensive about what someone has done or said. I know some people see insults when they aren’t there, and I don’t want to think that way.

Wolverine Volleyball are in the playoffs!

Hey Wolverines! Be sure to support our Volleyball team! Below is an email from coach Tate!

Hello all,

Sorry it’s last minute, and for some of you, you haven’t heard any recent updates about the volleyball team…my bad on that one. Just wanted to update you on our schedule.

We are playing Timberline High School (from Lacey I’m told) at 3:45pm tomorrow FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 6th. We will play again at 7:15pm. Both of these games are happening at Auburn-Mountainview High School.

If we win at least one of them, we will be playing again on Saturday at 10am or 12 noon, depending on how we do. I can send an email to anyone that’s interested tomorrow night to let you know about Saturday (I won’t flood inboxes though, so let me know if you want an update about Saturday’s schedule).

When/If we make it through Saturday, we will head to the State Tournament NEXT weekend in Kennewick (details to follow if/when necessary!) J

Thanks for all your support of Evergreen Athletics and especially volleyball!

5 Tips for Landing a Seasonal Job

Holiday Hiring Slightly Better Than Last Year
Retailers added the fewest jobs in nearly 20 years for last year's holiday season. There may be a few more holiday season jobs available this year than last year, but applicants will face stiff competition.Experts offer these tips for workers who want to land a seasonal job in this competitive market:
1. Start looking now.Even though some employers may be holding off on hiring, they may be already compiling lists of people to hire.
2. Offer what employers need.Employers are looking for reliable workers with flexible schedules.
3. Make a personal connection. If you're looking for a retail job, focus first on stores where you shop. Go to see store managers in person and show that you know the merchandise. "Introduce yourself and make sure he or she knows you like the store," recommends one expert.
4. Focus on transferrable skills. What if you're looking for a retail job but have never worked in a store before? "Look at skills in your previous positions that might be applicable to retail. These could include communication skills, problem-solving, and working with people.
5. Look beyond retail.Retailers do a lot of holiday hiring, but they're not the only ones. Online ordering means jobs for people to help process those orders. Transportation and delivery companies also staff up during the holiday season.
